Cast not upon them thorn and fire;
Rather, send them thoughts of scorn and ire.
For, as ogres, vampires, ghouls and ghosts,
Nazis, Klansmen, and fascists know:
Sticks and stones will break old bones,
But it’s the words that hurt the most.
So, bow your heads in prayer;
Show how much you care —
Legislate? No, supplicate
Your all-important potentate:
God, grant me the audacity to reject the facts I will not face,
The coffers to compensate the NRA,
And the permission to play the victim.
